Waste Management

Environmental monitoring equipment and leachate management solutions for landfill sites

Flux Enviro provides environmental monitoring equipment and leachate management solutions for operational, closed and restored landfill sites across the UK and Ireland.

A key strength of our landfill offering is its breadth. We can supply the principal field instrumentation required for routine compliance, emissions monitoring and leachate extraction backed by equipment rental, calibration, servicing and technical support.

Our capabilities extend beyond instrumentation. Our team has direct experience of landfill planning, environmental licensing and permitting, landfill operation, compliance monitoring and leachate management. This gives us an understanding of the operational and regulatory drivers behind the measurements, allowing us to provide practical support across environmental monitoring, landfill operations and leachate management.

Landfill Gas Monitoring

Landfill gas monitoring is fundamental to routine environmental compliance and the management of both operational and closed landfill sites. Monitoring may be undertaken across gas extraction wells, perimeter boreholes, migration monitoring points and other site locations to understand gas composition, pressure and potential migration.

Flux Enviro supplies portable landfill gas analysers for measuring parameters including:

  • Methane (CH₄)

  • Carbon dioxide (CO₂)

  • Oxygen (O₂)

  • Hydrogen sulphide (H₂S)

  • Carbon monoxide (CO)

  • Differential pressure

  • Selected additional gases

Instrumentation is available for purchase or rental, with options suited to routine compliance monitoring, site investigation and other landfill gas applications. Calibration, servicing and technical support are also available, helping sites maintain a consistent and reliable field monitoring fleet.

Water & Leachate Monitoring

Groundwater, leachate and surface-water monitoring provide important information for environmental compliance, assessment of containment performance and long-term landfill management. Monitoring requirements can include groundwater surrounding the site, leachate levels within the waste body, surface-water discharge and receiving waters.

We supply equipment for:

  • Groundwater and leachate level measurement

  • Groundwater and leachate sampling

  • Low-flow groundwater sampling

  • Oil/water interface measurement

  • Field water-quality measurement

  • Surface water sampling and monitoring

  • Water-level and temperature logging

  • Flow measurement

  • Continuous water-quality monitoring

Equipment can be supplied for routine manual monitoring, short-term investigations or longer-term continuous measurement, with options for local data logging and remote telemetry where required.

Leachate Management

Leachate pumping is a critical part of landfill management and can represent a significant operational and energy cost over the lifetime of a site. Effective management requires more than simply selecting a pump; the pumping system needs to be considered alongside leachate generation, well construction, available drawdown, target levels, pumping rates, discharge arrangements, power availability, monitoring requirements and wider operational and compliance objectives.

Flux Enviro combines practical experience of landfill operation, leachate management, environmental monitoring and regulatory requirements with high-efficiency LORENTZ pumping technology to develop systems around individual wells, site infrastructure and operational requirements.

Since the introduction of LORENTZ Energy pumping systems to Ireland, systems supplied by Flux Enviro now account for more than 75% of total leachate extraction in Northern Ireland. Systems can be provided on either a supply-only or supply-and-maintain basis, allowing the level of ongoing support to be matched to individual site requirements.

Solutions can incorporate:

  • High-efficiency pump and motor technology

  • Reduced electrical consumption and operating costs

  • Variable pumping rates and level-based control

  • Mains-powered, solar-powered or combined power arrangements

  • Solutions for remote wells without conventional power infrastructure

  • Leachate level measurement and monitoring

  • Remote pump monitoring and management

  • Operating and performance data

  • Automated alarms and notifications

  • Integration of multiple pumps and monitoring points

Our involvement can extend beyond the pumping equipment itself. Flux Enviro can assist with leachate level monitoring, pumping strategy, system configuration, remote communications and ongoing performance assessment, allowing pumping and monitoring to be considered as part of the same leachate-management system.

Systems can be supplied for new installations, replacement of existing pumping equipment or progressive upgrades of established leachate extraction networks, with support available for installation, commissioning, servicing, fault diagnosis and ongoing optimisation.

Emissions & Site Monitoring

Particulate and meteorological monitoring can provide important information for the management of dust emissions, investigation of complaints and assessment of changing conditions around operational waste-management and landfill sites.

Traditional deposited-dust methods can provide useful information on dust deposition over a defined monitoring period, but offer limited information on when individual events occurred or the conditions associated with them. Continuous particulate monitoring provides much greater temporal resolution, allowing changes in particulate concentrations to be identified and compared with site activities and meteorological conditions.

Flux Enviro provides equipment for:

  • Continuous particulate monitoring

  • PM₁, PM₂.₅, PM₁₀ and total suspended particulate measurement

  • Short-term monitoring campaigns

  • Permanent boundary and site monitoring

  • Wind speed and direction

  • Rainfall and other meteorological parameters

  • Local data logging and remote telemetry

  • Configurable alarms and notifications

Combining particulate measurements with wind speed and direction can provide valuable context when investigating elevated concentrations, helping to understand the conditions occurring at the time and investigate potential relationships with site operations or other surrounding sources.

Monitoring systems can range from individual particulate instruments through to remotely connected monitoring stations combining particulate and meteorological sensors. Flux Enviro can support equipment selection, installation, power and telemetry arrangements, commissioning, servicing and ongoing technical support.

Complete Support for Landfill Operations

Our landfill offering extends from portable instrumentation used for routine compliance monitoring through to permanently installed leachate pumping, environmental monitoring and telemetry infrastructure.

Flux Enviro can support:

  • Equipment selection and supply

  • Equipment rental

  • Calibration, servicing and repair

  • Monitoring system design

  • Leachate pumping system design

  • Installation and commissioning

  • Data logging and telemetry

  • Ongoing technical support

This combination of landfill experience, environmental instrumentation and leachate pumping expertise allows us to understand the wider operational requirement and develop solutions around the site, rather than simply supplying individual products.
