Site Investigation & Contaminated Land

Flux Enviro supports environmental consultants, contaminated land specialists and contractors with specialist equipment and monitoring solutions for site investigation, contaminated land assessment and remediation projects.

Our team's experience in this sector extends beyond equipment supply. Having previously designed, managed and delivered site investigation and remediation projects, we understand the practical requirements of collecting reliable environmental data in the field and how those data contribute to the wider conceptual site model, risk assessment and remediation process.

That experience now informs how we support our clients. We can help determine the most appropriate sampling, field measurement and monitoring techniques for the investigation objectives, site conditions and contaminants of interest—while considering practical issues such as access, borehole construction, sampling methodology, equipment decontamination, monitoring duration and the requirements for laboratory analysis.

Our equipment and solutions support investigation and monitoring across soil, groundwater, surface water, ground gas and vapour, ranging from individual field instruments and rental packages through to continuous monitoring and remotely connected systems.

Equipment can be supplied or rented, with calibration, servicing, consumables, technical support and field assistance available throughout the project.

Soil Sampling

Soil investigation can support site characterisation, contaminated land assessment, delineation of contamination and remediation verification, combining physical sample collection with field screening where appropriate. Sampling and measurement requirements can vary considerably depending on ground conditions, investigation depth, contaminants of interest and subsequent laboratory analysis.

Flux Enviro provides equipment for:

  • Hand and powered soil augering for rapid investigation and sample collection

  • Edelman and specialist augers for different soil and ground conditions

  • Core and undisturbed sampling for depth-specific sampling, profiling and recovery of intact samples

  • Handheld window sampling for investigating shallow ground and collecting samples at defined depths

  • VOC and soil-gas screening using PID instrumentation to support rapid field assessment and identification of potential areas of contamination

Equipment can be selected around the investigation objectives, ground conditions, target contaminants, required depth and subsequent analysis, supporting targeted investigation and contaminant delineation through to remediation and validation programmes.

Groundwater Investigation

Groundwater investigation is an important component of many site investigation and contaminated land projects, helping to establish baseline conditions, groundwater levels and flow direction, groundwater quality and potential contaminant migration pathways.

Flux Enviro can supply the complete groundwater monitoring package, from borehole sampling and manual measurements through to continuous monitoring and telemetry. Equipment and solutions include:

  • Groundwater sampling and low-flow methods, including pumps, bailers, tubing, filtration and associated consumables

  • Manual groundwater-level measurement for routine monitoring and verification

  • Continuous groundwater-level and temperature logging for baseline studies and investigation of changing groundwater conditions

  • Interface measurement for the detection and measurement of LNAPL and DNAPL

  • Field water-quality measurement including pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, ORP, temperature and turbidity

  • Continuous water-quality monitoring using conductivity loggers and multiparameter instrumentation

  • Telemetry and remote data acquisition for longer-term or higher-frequency monitoring requirements

Equipment can be selected around the investigation objectives, borehole construction, groundwater conditions, target contaminants, sampling methodology and monitoring duration. This allows Flux Enviro to support everything from individual monitoring visits and baseline sampling programmes through to complete multi-borehole groundwater monitoring networks.

Where temporal changes are important, groundwater instrumentation can also be connected to data loggers and telemetry, providing more immediate access to changing groundwater conditions and reducing reliance on manual site visits.

Ground Gas & Vapour Monitoring

Ground-gas monitoring is an important component of contaminated land and site investigation, helping to characterise ground-gas conditions, identify potential migration and assess risks associated with gas generation or accumulation.

Flux Enviro provides instrumentation for the measurement of key ground-gas parameters including:

  • Methane (CH₄)

  • Carbon dioxide (CO₂)

  • Oxygen (O₂)

  • Hydrogen sulphide (H₂S)

  • Carbon monoxide (CO)

  • Differential pressure and gas flow

Understanding gas flow and pressure alongside gas concentration can be particularly important when assessing ground-gas risk. Concentration identifies the gases present, while pressure and flow measurements provide additional information on the potential for gas movement and migration through the ground.

For investigation of volatile organic compounds, PID instrumentation can be used for rapid VOC screening of soil gas, borehole headspace and soil samples, supporting site characterisation, identification of potential hotspots and more targeted investigation.

Equipment Rental

Site investigation and remediation projects often require specialist instrumentation for relatively short periods, with equipment requirements changing according to the site conditions, investigation objectives and programme of works. Rental provides access to the appropriate equipment when it is needed, without requiring project teams to maintain a large inventory of specialist instruments.

Flux Enviro maintains an extensive rental fleet covering many of the instruments routinely required for contaminated land investigation, groundwater monitoring, ground-gas assessment and remediation projects. Our team's previous experience delivering these projects ourselves influences how our rental service is structured—we understand the importance of equipment arriving complete, correctly configured and ready for field deployment.

Our rental fleet includes:

  • Groundwater sampling pumps and low-flow sampling equipment

  • Water-level and interface meters

  • Water-quality meters and multiparameter instrumentation

  • Ground-gas analysers

  • PID instruments for VOC measurement

  • Level, water-quality and environmental data loggers

  • Specialist environmental monitoring instrumentation

Equipment can be supplied individually or assembled into practical, application-specific field packages, complete with the required cables, tubing, chargers, accessories and consumables. Where required, we can also assist with equipment selection, configuration and practical technical support throughout the rental period.

Rental can support everything from individual monitoring visits and short-duration investigations to longer-term projects and temporary increases in monitoring capacity, providing a flexible way to access specialist instrumentation as project requirements evolve.
