Groundwater Sampling

Groundwater sampling methods should be selected according to the monitoring objectives, borehole construction, depth to water, required flow rate and parameters being analysed. Flux Enviro provides a comprehensive range of equipment for no-purge sampling, low-flow sampling, well purging and higher-volume groundwater abstraction, allowing the sampling approach to be matched to the requirements of the site and investigation.

Stainless Steel Pumps (Geosub2, MP1)

Groundwater sampling, purging and deeper boreholes

Robust reusable construction with variable-flow options available

For low-flow groundwater sampling, pumps can be integrated with multiparameter water quality instrumentation and flow cells to continuously monitor field parameters during purging. This allows groundwater conditions to be observed in real time and parameter stabilisation to be demonstrated before sample collection, helping to support representative and repeatable sampling. Our YSI ProDSS, YSI ProQuatro and EXO sondes are available with flow cell arrangements for low-flow sampling and purging.

Flux Enviro can provide the complete groundwater sampling setup, including pumps, controllers, tubing, flow cells, water quality instrumentation and associated consumables, backed by equipment configuration, user training and ongoing technical support.

Groundwater Level Monitoring

Groundwater level measurement is fundamental to all hydrogeological studies both short and long-term. Depending on the application, monitoring may range from periodic manual measurements through to continuous high-resolution logging and remotely connected monitoring systems.

Flux Enviro provides equipment and monitoring solutions for baseline groundwater monitoring, seasonal groundwater assessment, pumping and abstraction tests, drawdown and recovery monitoring, and long-term groundwater level networks. Our groundwater level monitoring range includes:

Groundwater Quality Monitoring

Field measurement of groundwater quality supports groundwater investigation, routine monitoring and low-flow sampling, complementing laboratory analysis and providing immediate information on groundwater conditions.

Flux Enviro supplies multiparameter water quality instrumentation for applications ranging from periodic spot measurements and low-flow sampling using YSI ProQuatro and ProDSS instruments, through to continuous monitoring with YSI EXO multiparameter sondes and optional remote telemetry.

Common groundwater quality parameters include:

  • pH

  • Conductivity – including specific conductance, salinity, TDS and resistivity

  • Dissolved oxygen (DO)

  • Oxidation-reduction potential (ORP)

  • Temperature

  • Turbidity - Including TSS

  • Additional parameters including ammonium, ammonia, nitrate and chloride

Instrumentation can be configured around the required parameters, borehole conditions, monitoring duration and data requirements.

Aquifer Investigation & Groundwater Characterisation

Aquifer investigation often requires several measurements to be considered together. Monitoring groundwater level, abstraction rate, conductivity and water quality during pumping and recovery can provide valuable information on aquifer response and changing groundwater conditions.

Electrical conductivity is a particularly useful and often underutilised hydrogeological indicator. Vertical conductivity profiles can identify changes with depth and help investigate groundwater ingress, water-bearing zones, mixing and well construction. Conductivity can also be used as a tracer, including in dilution and tracer testing, to investigate groundwater movement and flow characteristics.

Flux Enviro can provide equipment for:

  • Pumping and abstraction tests

  • Drawdown and recovery monitoring using manual meters or pressure loggers

  • Barometric pressure monitoring for compensation of absolute pressure data

  • Conductivity, temperature and water level logging

  • Vertical conductivity profiling

  • Dilution and tracer investigations

  • Groundwater quality monitoring during aquifer testing

Equipment can be supplied individually or configured as a complete monitoring setup for the investigation.

Remote Monitoring

Remote monitoring can reduce routine site visits while providing more frequent access to groundwater data and earlier visibility of changing site conditions. Systems can be supplied as individual remote monitoring units or developed as multi-location, multi-sensor networks, monitoring parameters including groundwater level, temperature, conductivity and water quality.

Flux Enviro can provide the complete monitoring system, including sensors, data loggers, telemetry, communications, power supplies, enclosures and mounting hardware, with equipment configured and tested prior to deployment.

Depending on the system, data can be accessed through a web-based monitoring platform, with options for automated reporting, alarms and notifications where required. Systems can be supplied for client installation or supported by Flux Enviro with installation, commissioning, user training and ongoing technical support.

Installation and Field Support

To complement our groundwater range, Flux Enviro offer installation materials including narrow diameter well screen, bentonite and well caps. Furthermore, our team offer comprehensive piezometer installation services for shallow installations using handheld window sampling and sacrificial cone methods. For large scale projects, larger diameter well screen or drilling works please reach out and we'll refer you to our recommended providers.
