Aquaculture monitoring can involve routine or continuous measurement of dissolved oxygen, temperature, pH, conductivity, salinity, turbidity and other water-quality parameters, helping operators understand changing environmental conditions and identify conditions that may affect stock, production or wider environmental performance.

Aquaculture Monitoring

Maintaining suitable water conditions is fundamental to fish health, stock performance and successful aquaculture operations. Monitoring requirements vary between freshwater and marine production systems, but commonly centre on understanding how key water-quality parameters change throughout the day, between seasons and in response to operational or environmental conditions.

Flux Enviro supports monitoring within freshwater and marine aquaculture facilities, hatcheries, tanks, raceways, ponds and open-water production sites, with instrumentation for:

For routine operational checks, portable instruments such as YSI ProSolo and ProDSS meters provide rapid measurements across production areas. Where conditions need to be monitored continuously, fixed sensors and YSI EXO multiparameter sondes can provide higher-frequency data and identify changes that may not be captured by periodic manual measurements.

Continuous monitoring can be particularly valuable for parameters such as dissolved oxygen and temperature, where conditions can change relatively quickly and potentially affect stock before the next scheduled manual measurement.

Monitoring systems can also be connected to telemetry platforms, allowing operators to view current and historical conditions remotely and configure alerts when selected parameters move outside defined limits.

Water Sampling & Profiling

Discrete sampling and water-column profiling are important across aquaculture, environmental assessment and marine research, particularly where the objective is to investigate spatial variation, depth-related changes or conditions across a wider water body.

CTD profilers can be used to investigate changes in conductivity/salinity, temperature and depth, providing rapid vertical profiles through lakes, reservoirs, estuaries and coastal waters. Multiparameter instrumentation can extend profiling to parameters including dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, chlorophyll and other optical measurements, helping identify stratification, mixing, biological activity and changing water-quality conditions with depth.

Discrete sampling can complement in-situ measurements by allowing water samples to be collected from specific locations or depths for subsequent laboratory analysis, enabling field measurements and laboratory datasets to be considered together.

Coastal & Estuarine Monitoring

Coastal and estuarine environments are dynamic systems influenced by tides, freshwater inputs, salinity gradients, weather conditions, biological activity and human pressures. Monitoring programmes may therefore require measurements across multiple locations, depths and environmental conditions.
